Experience
I'm a veteran math teacher, having taught for 12 years both in the classroom and tutoring one-on-one. My specialties are middle- and high school-level mathematics, SAT prep, and physics. I currently teach math and physics at Battle Ground Academy in Franklin, TN. Prior to moving to Franklin, I taught at Bard College at Simon's Rock, and before that, was Math Curriculum Developer and Lead Math Instructor at S.E.O., a non-profit organization that aims to provide underserved, motivated New York City public school students with the rigorous academic foundation needed to get into and succeed in top colleges. I enjoy working with students of all skill levels, but take special interest in helping students who struggle or are even "math-phobic". There is nothing more rewarding than seeing such a student gain self-confidence, conceptual understanding, and mathematical fluency. It is an incredible feeling, for me almost as much as for the student! My students know me to be an extremely patient, encouraging, and fun teacher who genuinely cares about them and their understanding of math. In my teaching, I take pride in fostering a sense of pleasure, excitement, and wonder at the mysteries and beauties of mathematics and life in general. My students persevere in solving problems. They master concepts that were difficult for them, and in so doing they become more confident mathematicians, thinkers, and human beings. References available upon request.
